Roots are 3 to 5 inches in diameter, globe shaped, clean and smooth. Upper portion bright reddish-purple, pure white below. Flesh is white, fine textured and tender with a sweet, mild flavor. Tops medium large, erect, dark green of fine flavor.
SOWING…Plant seed outdoors as soon as the ground can be worked. For fall and winter use sow in late summer. Plant in rows 18 inches apart spacing seeds ½ inch apart in the row. Cover seed with ½ inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until plants start to grow.
THINNING…When plants are 1 to 2 inches tall, thin or transplant spacing plants 5 inches apart.
GERMINATION…Germinates in 7 to 10 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
REMARKS…Turnips may be broadcast among the corn at last cultivation. Just before severe frost, lift the roots and store for the winter.
