An excellent strain of Butternut developed by the Waltham Mass. Ag. Experiment Station. Skin color is a creamy yellow and flesh is a deep golden orange. Its seeds are few and all are located in the extreme bottom. Can be served either baked or boiled, its quality is exceptional, entirely free of stringiness.

SOWING…Plant seed outdoors after all danger of frost is past or start indoors 4 to 6 weeks earlier. Make a group of 3 to 5 seeds placed in a ring about 2 inches across; cover with ½ inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Each ring of seeds is called a hill and hills should be spaced 6 to 8 feet apart each way.

THINNING…When plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin leaving the 3 or 4 strongest plants in each hill.

GERMINATION…Germinates in 10 to 14 days depending on soil and temperature conditions.

REMARKS…Allow the fruits to remain on the vine until fully matured. Handle carefully and store in a moderately warm, dry place during the winter.
