Maroon-red oakleaf type is sweet flavored and tender. Makes a colorful addition to salads. Plants make large rosettes which are slow to bolt allowing harvest over a long time.
SOWING…Plant seed outdoors as soon as ground can be worked. Plant in rows 15 inches apart spacing seeds 1 inch apart in the row. Cover with ¼ inch of fine soil well pressed down. Keep soil moist until the seeds start to grow.
THINNING…When plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin or transplant to 6 to 10 inches apart.
GERMINATION…Germinates in 7 to 14 days depending on soil and temperature conditions.
REMARKS…As heads develop; pick outer leaves off every other plant, then remove completely to allow the rest of the plants more room. For continuous harvest, repeat plantings every 2 to 3 weeks.Share
