A distinct variety of leaf lettuce, shaped like an oak leaf and of a delicious buttery flavor. The hearts make excellent “greens” when cooked like Spinach. This variety will withstand hot weather without becoming bitter.
SOWING…Sow seed outdoors as early as the ground can be worked. Plant in rows 15 inches apart spacing seed 1 inch apart in the row. Cover seed with ¼ inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until plants start to grow.
THINNING…When plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin to 6 to 10 inches apart.
GERMINATION…Germinates in 7 to 10 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
REMARKS…As heads develop pick outer leaves off every other plant, then remove completely to allow the rest of the plants more space. Repeat plantings every 2 to 3 weeks for continuous harvest all season.
