History
An old Swiss and English heirloom dating back well beyond the American pioneers that made it popular in the 1700’s. Highly valued because of its tolerance to both heat and cold.
Habit
Forms a nice open rosette of tender triangle shaped emerald colored leaves with a prominent rib. Some leaves can be tinged with light bronze. Heads average 6-7” and are very slow to bolt.
Culture
As soon as the soil can be worked in early spring, plant seed outdoors 2” apart. Cover the seed lightly with ⅛” of fine soil and water in well. Germinates in 6-10 days. When plants are 3” tall, thin to allow mature plants to stand 10” apart. Matures in 55-65 days.
