Low-growing compact plants with finely curled blue-green foliage. A hardy productive variety of excellent flavor, which is prepared like spinach. Plants withstand some frost which improves flavor.
SOWING…Plant seed outdoors as early in the spring as ground can be worked. For winter use it may be planted as late as mid August. Plant in rows 2 feet apart, spacing 4 to 6 inches in the row. Cover with ¼ inch of fine soil.
THINNING…When plants are 3 to 4 inches high, thin or transplant to 12 inches apart in the row.
GERMINATION…Germinates in 7 to 14 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
REMARKS…Rich in Vitamins A, B, and E. Kale requires good soil and thorough cultivation. A winter mulch of leaves or straw helps prevent damage.
