Harvests in 85 Days
Introduced in 1933, Golden Cross has remained popular because it reliably produces over a wide range of environmental conditions. Plants often reach over 6' tall producing 8" ears with 12-16 rows of rich yellow kernels. Excellent for fresh eating and preserving.
SOWING...Plant corn seed in full sun directly in the garden when the soil has warmed to at least 70° and night-time temps do not dip below 60°. Corn requires full sun and fertile soil. Plant seed 1 1⁄2" deep, 3-4" apart in blocks (4'x4') or rows 24" apart.
THINNING...When plants are 5" tall, thin to 10" apart. Corn is wind pollinated and crowded plants may not produce full ears.
GERMINATION...8-15 days; depending on soil temperature. REMARKS...For continuous harvest, plant every 3 weeks till mid-summer. Pull soil up around plants when cultivating to help keep the wind from blowing the plants down. Pick when silks turn brown. Excellent for canning or freezing.
