Hardy Biennial

Height 5 feet

This is the old-fashioned garden plant with fully double blooms in shades of crimson, rose, pink, yellow and white. Hollyhock is a favorite in most gardens. Showy in beds or borders as well as meadow settings, they make excellent cut flowers as well. SOWING...Sow seed outdoors in late spring or early summer. Plant seeds in rows 24 inches apart, spacing seeds 1 to 2 inches apart in row. Cover seed with 1/8 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until plants start to grow.

THINNING...When plants are 2-3 inches high, thin or transplant 10 to 12 inches apart.

GERMINATION...Germinates in 14 to 21 days depending on soil and temperature conditions.

REMARKS...Plants normally need no winter protection and bloom the next June and July. Hollyhock are easy to grow but prefer a sunny well-drained location. Provide support if plants will be exposed to strong winds.
