Transform your garden into a garden of the past! An English garden of the early 1800s would have several varieties of hollyhock. ‘Indian Spring’ is known to flower in its first season from seed. Even though fairly drought tolerant, it performs best with ample moisture and deep, rich soil for best performance. Flowers are edible! A 1939 All-America Selections winner. Especially attractive to pollinators; hardy in USDA zones 2-8.

When to sow outside: RECOMMENDED.

1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, or 2 months before your average first fall frost date.

When to start inside: 6 to 8 weeks before your average last frost date. Roots are sensitive to disturbance; sow in biodegradable pots that can be planted in the ground.

Special germination instructions: To improve germination, rub seed lightly with sandpaper or nick the edge with a nailclipper. Light aids germination; press seed into soil surface.
