Heritage Pumpkin Connecticut Field

Heritage Pumpkin Connecticut Field

History

One of the oldest pumpkins in existence, given to us by the Native American people; pre 1700. The standard for Jack-O’Lanterns with its thick orange skin and bright yellow flesh.

Habit

Large fruit 10-15” in diameter, weighing up to 25 pounds. Large plants need plenty of space. When mature, cut from vines with pruning shears, leaving 3” of stem.

Culture

Plant seed outdoors in late spring after ground has warmed and danger of frost is past. Traditionally planted in “hills” (a small circular group of 3-5 seeds) seeds can also be planted in rows 6-10 feet apart or in among the corn. Cover seed with ½” of fine soil, well pressed down. Germinates in 7-14 days, depending on weather. Matures in 100 days.
