Harvest in 75-90 Days
This heirloom cabbage produces compact round heads with deep wine-red colored leaves. Heads averaging 6” in diameter and weighing 3 pounds.
SOWING…for early spring crop - sow indoors 5-7 weeks before last expected frost and transplant outside 3 weeks before last spring frost. Protect spring plantings with row covers to discourage cabbage loopers. For fall crop, sow directly in garden in 3 months before first expected frost. Cover seed with ¼” fine soil.
THINNING…plants to 18” apart in row 24” apart. Enjoy the young leaves of your thinning in your salads.
GERMINATION…in 7-10 days depending on soil and weather conditions. Keep evenly moist but not continually wet.
REMARKS…Red Acre cabbage is compact enough for small gardens or even containers. Stores better than any other early cabbage we’ve tried. Even in the garden the heads hold well for a long period before splitting.
