Summer Maintenance!

• Fertilizing - Pond plants should be fertilized once a month in early May thru September 1st.  In extreme heat, fertilizing should be increased to every 2 weeks. Use only aquatic-type fertilizer.  

• Water Level - Check the water level of your pond often. Warm weather will evaporate pond water quickly.  Use a dechlorinator when adding water. 

• Filter Care and Cleaning - Check filters on your pond once a week.  They will need more cleaning in the spring as the pond is starting up.

• Algae and Pond Balance - Factors in controlling algae:  Water surface shaded with plant material covering 50% - 70% of water.  Use oxygenators to remove excess nutrients in water.  A proper balance of plant materials.  The correct amount of fish for the size of the pond.  Always remove organic debris from water.  Minimize water changes.  Use Biological Filters, Barley Straw and good Bacteria.
